About the event
Ruby Koa is thrilled to be partnering with the City Parks and Rec Dept. this summer to offer a couple of special events at her favorite place for outdoor sound baths, Fairhaven Park. With the combined therapeutic benefits of walking meditation, sound healing, and being nature, you're sure to leave feeling calm and refreshed.Â
We'll begin with about 20 minutes of walking meditation (Ruby will likely play some of her instruments while you're walking to help with focus as well) to prepare your mind and body for for an hour long sound bath. This will include crystal singing bowls and then an extended gong segment in which she'll likely play her Zildjian and/or Grotto Sonora gongs which are great for grounding and working on the lower chakras. Then she'll play her Planetary Moon Gong which has an etheric quality to it that will help you relax and let go. Multiple mallets will be used to bring out the full spectrum of beneficial vibrations and frequencies.
The other special thing about an outdoor sound bath is that the random sounds you may hear, from birds singing to people laughing and playing tennis will merge with the sound healing instruments to create an opportunity to release control and surrender to your true nature. Just as a body massage works out tight and knotted muscles, the "sonic massage" of a Gong meditation works out emotional issues that we need to release in order to move forward in life. The listener only has to let go and let the sound of the Gongs do the work.Â
No prior experience with yoga, meditation, or sound energy is needed, the movement and sound will simply meet you where you are and take you wherever you need to go.
With: Ruby Koa
When: Thursday July 18, 5:30 - 7:00 pm
Cost: $25, registration is handled by the city. Currently this event is capped at 20 participants, but if the weather is looking good a week before the event, at least 10 more spots will be opened up. REGISTER HERE
In case of bad weather: If the weather is too bad to have this event outside, we'll likely still do the walking meditation part outside, but the sound bath part of the event will be held in the Fairhaven Park Pavillion.
What to bring:Â The sound bath part is usually experienced lying down on your back or a similar comfortable position, though for some, a camping chair might be more comfortable. So please bring whatever you need to be comfortable and warm, such as a camping chair, cozy padding (yoga/Pilates/camping mat) to lay on, a pillow, blanket &/or sleeping bag, and eye covering.Â
Parking Tips: Though there is usually sufficient parking at Fairhaven Park, I recommend arriving 15-20 minutes early just in case. If you are unable to find a spot, simply drive to the upper parking lot and drop of your stuff with us near the walking Labyrinth. Then go park nearby at the Interurban Trail Rotary Trailhead or find residential parking on Clementine Street or at Padden Creek Apartments. You can expect roughly an 8 minute walk from there.
Cancellation Policy: Because this event is being hosted by Bellingham Parks and Rec, their policies apply, which usually include pre-registration and no refunds. However, if you contact me with your situation, I can give you a credit towards one of my own upcoming classes or events.
