About the event

Join us for a powerful afternoon of deep relaxation, energetic alignment, and sonic bliss. The timing has beautifully aligned such that world-renowned gong musician and teacher, Mike Tamburo is on his West Coast tour and will be joining us with his 40+ instruments!

Gathering just a few days before the April Full Moon in Libra, we are in a potent window to embrace the energies of balance, harmony, and inner alignment. It can be incredibly powerful to tune into the full moon ahead of time, as you can often start to feel its pull up to four days beforehand. Tuning into the full moon early allows for greater sensitivity to and integration of these energies before they peak. With the sun in dynamic Aries and the moon in partnership-focused Libra, this is a beautiful invitation to restore equilibrium within ourselves and in our connections with others. Through the soothing resonance of sound, we will journey into deep relaxation, release energetic blockages, and attune to the expansive wisdom of the approaching full moon.

This healing experience begins with an acknowledgement of the indigenous land and ancestors, and a centering guided by Susan Powell. Then Ruby will lead you through gentle and opening movements and breath work with Jay playing the hand pan and drums. You’ll then be guided through a body scan to ease your nervous system into stillness.

From there, allow yourself to enter a timeless space of listening as Mike Tamburo, accompanied by Ruby Koa, orchestrates his way through 40+ overtone-rich instruments, including Gongs, Bells, Sound Sculptures, a Hammered Dulcimer, and tuned metal instruments. Listeners have described Mike’s music as an adventure in listening, a deep and lasting vibrational rejuvenation for body and spirit, and a journey through the senses.

Both metal and quartz crystal singing bowls, along with various styles of chimes, rain sticks, and ocean drums, will also be woven into the sounds of the afternoon. Saralee Sky will also most likely be present to offer gentle energetic support, enhancing the experience with Reiki and other grounding modalities. The event concludes with tea, sweets, snacks, and community.

What to Bring: The sound immersion, or sound bath is usually experienced lying down on your back or a similar comfortable position. Limited blankets, bolsters, and lovely silk eye pillows with optional lavender aromatherapy essential oils will be available to use. We'll be lying down for at least 75 minutes or so on a hardwood floor, so please bring whatever you need to be as comfortable as possible:

  • Yoga/camping/Pilates/folding futon/nova foam pad or mat

  • Reclining camping chair or anti-gravity chairs (ideal for folks with low back issues)

  • Plenty of cushy blankets and pillow(s)

  • Water bottle (tea and snacks will be served after, but feel free to bring your own thermos)

  • Earplugs (helpful in case you discover you’re sensitive to certain sound frequencies)

Each prop can have a powerful influence on your ability to relax and sink further into the rest & digest state, so it is best to be prepared! As this is a group experience, it's important that your own sounds or movements are not disruptive to those around you. If you cannot be comfortable on the floor, bring a reclining camping chair!  If you are prone to loud snoring, bring cushions to elevate your torso!

Refunds are usually only given when the cancellation is made 24 hours before the event starts. However, you are always welcome to give your ticket to someone else, or if you contact Ruby as soon as you can, you can let her know what future event or class you’d like to be registered in with your credit.

Note on Hearing Aids: We cannot guarantee that the sound will be pleasing with hearing aids, so unless you're accustomed to using them in sound healing scenarios, you may want to take them out or turn them down during the sound journey segment. Mike Tamburo: (See Mike Tamburo in action here. And here's another video, and one more!)

Mike Tamburo is a world-renowned musician, composer, artist and educator. He is known and loved for his transformational live concerts performed on his personally curated set of gongs, bells and other metal instruments.

A lifelong multi-instrumentalist, Tamburo has focused his talents on metal percussion instruments, string instruments (hammered dulcimer, guitar, zither, shahi baaja), as well as electronic instruments (synths, looping).

Since 1994, Tamburo has shared more than 2,000 concerts and workshops. He has recorded over 70 albums, both solo and in collaboration with Crown of Eternity, Meisha, Arco Flute Foundation, Psychic Frost, Brother Ong and more, ranging from epic gong music to ecstatic and transcendental string music, as well as folk, drone, space rock, ambient, mantra music and sometimes unclassifiable sounds. This man loves music in all its forms!

He teaches gong music, both in person and online with School of Gong. He is also a part of the far-reaching ethnomusicology trio, Dig Deeper, with Mitch Nur and Thomas Orr Anderson. Their online classes have explored countless musical concepts with a focus on the cultural and personal uses of sound for healing, meditation, trance, ecstatic states, relaxation, self transformation, perception, psycho-acoustics, scientific discovery, time and community.

An early adoptee of meditation, Tamburo’s music offers space for journeying, self-exploration and deep introspection. During many of his early performances, he experienced altered states of consciousness and out of body experiences. To understand these experiences, he explored kundalini yoga, energy work, the therapeutic use of sound and how sound impacts consciousness, human perception and self healing. His love for long sustained drones, overtones and psychoacoustics continues to inspire him to explore music in further directions.

Tamburo is also an interdisciplinary sound artist, instrument builder, video artist, sound therapist, writer and meditation teacher.
